Workforce Resources

The State of Idaho Department of Labor offers many training and development programs and options for employers.  This is one of the outstanding incentives attracting more and more businesses to Idaho every year.  Current Idaho employers can access these programs as well.  More details are available at the Department of Labor website.

Workforce Development Training Fund

The Workforce Development Training Fund helps eligible Idaho companies with up to $2,000 per employee for job skills training.  It can provide job skill training for new employees of companies expanding in Idaho and skill upgrade training of current workers who are at risk of being permanently laid off to prevent that lay off.  The application process is designed for quick response and turnaround with minimal paperwork.

The Department of Labor offers "Customized Training" as well.  Here are some options:

  • Trained workers. Several hundred individuals receive training each year to prepare them for occupations in their community. Most of this training takes place at Idaho's public and private training institutions.
  • On-the-job-training. Businesses can receive a reimbursement of up to 50% of a trainee's wages when they agree to hire and train an eligible worker. Eligible workers are often new entrants to the labor force or those seeking new skills in order to become re-employed after a layoff.
  • Customized training. Training can be designed to meet the special needs of a business or group of businesses that agree to hire or retain a worker upon successful completion of training and pay at least 50% of the cost of training.
  • Layoff assistance. Retraining opportunities and job placement assistance, tailored to the needs of the business and the laid-off employees are available.
  • Other assistance. Short-term assistance with transportation or child care, tools, equipment, uniforms, and other benefits may be available to assist eligible employees when necessary.
