Clean & Green

In the "City of Trees," green isn't just the color of our summer foliage; it's also the way we do business.  From our city-wide strategic plan to the policies and practices of our individual departments, sustainability is built into our DNA.  We were the first city in Idaho to sign the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, pledging to reduce our carbon footprint both as a government agency and as a community.

Our comprehensive land-use plan is being rewritten to emphasize the priority of the county-wide Blueprint for Good Growth - such as transit-oriented development and mixed-use activity centers - that lessens the impact of development on our air, water and land, not to mention our pocketbooks.  Our newest municipal buildings are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified, and our city fleet is increasingly made up of flex-fuel and hybrid vehicles.  Our goal is to make Boise the most livable city in the country - and livable means sustainable, for ourselves and our children.
