Bike City

Boise, Idaho is a perfect for bike riders.  The city is surrounded by desert, rolling hills, and mountains, which beckon the "mountain biker."

The terrain within the city is relatively flat, enabling the bike commuter.  Numerous lightly-traveled country roads surrounding Boise lend themselves to fitness and touring.  And one of Boise's crown jewels, the Greenbelt, is a favorite haunt of recreational cyclists.  There is a place in Boise for cyclists of every interest and ability.

In November 2009, Mayor Bieter proposed that the eight-mile stretch of Bogus Basin Road used by gold medal cyclist Kristin Armstrong to train for the 2008 Beijing Olympics to be designated as the "Kristin Armstrong Bikeway" in honor of her achievements.  This secondary bikeway designation, which will not change the name of Bogus Basin Road, will run from Curling Road tot he Ada County line, or about half of the distance tot he ski resort above Boise.  Armstrong chose Bogus Basin Road for her training because its steady climb mimicked the rise on the Beijing course.
